Synthetic polymer paint on linen, 91cm x 61cm
Provenance: Mornington Island Art, Queensland. Alcaston Gallery, Melbourne. Private collection, Queensland. Mossgreen, Melbourne.
Paula Paul paints with The Bentinck Island Artists. The group is formed by seven women who were raised outside of European ways, in the traditional manner of the Kaiadilt ancestors. On Mornington Island they lived a largely separate life within the local Lardil and Yangkaal communities for over 40 years before those able to live independently negotiated their return to Bentinck during the early 1990s. She began painting late in life, capturing the Islands in distinct, yet vibrant works (1).
