Ben Sheers is an artist who uses a process driven approach and mixed mediums of photography, oil painting, screen printing and texture, to present simple yet layered works. Melbourne based, he was the recipient of the 2010 People’s Choice Award at the Melbourne Metro Art gallery. His use of multimedia seeks to narrow the distance between the viewer and artwork itself. Sheers’ landscapes are of places traditionally neglected by art, industrial sites and suburban areas.
When Ben Sheers became a father, it unlocked his fascination with the night and he started painting his new viewpoint. Listen is part of collection of works exploring the night and the hidden world that emerges when the sun goes down. Insects, landscapes, artificial light, but also the peace and quiet, all of that can be observed in the paintings (1).
