Digital print on aluminium, 75cm x 150cm
Provenance: MARS Gallery, Melbourne.

Emerging Gunditjamara / Yorta Yorta visual and multimedia artist, John Muir works in Melbourne to create works that connect to, and share stories of, his culture. Using the vibrant language of contemporary street art, Muir is inspired by modern colour blocking within public spaces and prints his panels directly onto metal. He was invited to exhibit at the 2016 White Night Festival in Melbourne, and was the recipient of the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award for Youth (1).

Stance is one of Josh Muir’s panels from the Still Here series, that was produced for the 2016 White Night in Melbourne. The story of Still Here focuses on the journey of the Victorian aboriginal people, both before and since colonisation. ‘The appearance of white men on our land meant that our life would never be the same again. Life has changed, we have struggled, been treated badly. But we are still here – and growing stronger with each generation. This is our story, a story of unity and survival.’ (2).
