TAKEALOOKATTHESEHANDS, 2013, Markus Linnenbrink

Epoxy resin and pigments on wood, 33cm x 43cm
Provenance: Art Basel, Hong Kong.

Markus Linnenbrink is a German painter best known for his room-sized painted installations and distinct style of dripping and dotting paint. He works with bright, glossy colours layered on top of epoxy resin in thick vertical stripes and dots. In one of his most noted works, the floor sculpture EVERYWHEREALLTHETIMEEVERYTHING, bright, domed forms stretch across a wooden surface. Born in Dortmund, Germany, Linnebrink studied at the Gesamthochschule in Kassel and later the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin (1).

Linnenbrink’s paintings are formed by shaping, shifting and moulding epoxy to create a three dimensional physical work. Multiple layers of opaque and translucent pigments are poured over the epoxy covered wood and allowed to pool and run off, balancing liquidity and gravity (2).
