Australian artist and art educator, John Waller continues the practice of landscape-based abstraction originated by Paul Cézanne. He works are notable for the handling of paint and brushwork that dominates the canvas, easily identifiable are the textural marks of scraps and smears. The composition of his landscapes is deliberate and empathetic with the natural world of his youth in northern Victoria. His work is held in many collections including Artbank, the Mildura Arts Centre, and Shepparton Art Gallery (1).
