Untitled, 2014, Adnate
Spray paint on canvas
Provenance: Charleston’s Fine Art Auctions, Sydney.
Considered one of the foremost street artists in Australia, Adnate utilises that medium of spray paint to carry his realist style into fine art. Heavily influenced by the use of light by renaissance painters, Adnate embraces portraiture on a large scale. He endeavours to capture the stories and emotions of each subject he paints with a particular focus on using his art to reflect the indigenous peoples of Australia (1).
Elevating graffiti art above the level of tagging, Adnate’s subject matter and their subsequent status often belies the intent of his portraits. Examining the fragility of the obsessive gaze of modern society, he slices his portraiture through with seemingly careless, but carefully calculated, blocks of vibrant colour from the street (2).
