Tjurrpinyi (Swimming at Haasts Bluff), 2012, Doris Bush Nungarrayi

Nungarryi, DB.jpg

Acrylic on linen, 183cm x 152cm
Provenance: Outstation Art, Parap.

Doris Bush Nungarrayi was born and grew up at Haasts Bluff, where her husband commenced work as an artist. George Bush Tjangala, a Luritja/Amnatyerre speaking man whose family came from just west of Alice Springs was one of the original shareholders of the Papunya Tula Artists’ association. After his death, Nungarrayi became one of the most prolific painters herself at Papunya. Her painting reminisces on memories of her past - times when she was a young girl in the bush, swimming and hunting with her friends at Ikuntji (Haasts Bluff) (1).
