Spear, 182cm x 11cm
Provenance: Tiwi Art Network, Darwin.

Born in Darwin, Nicholas Mario has Tiwi Island heritage from his mother, and a Greek background from his father. Raised on Bathurst Island in the Tiwi Islands, he learnt to paint under the tutelage of his grandmother, and carving from his grandfather and uncles. Mario has worked at both the Munupi Art Centre and the Jilamara Arts & Crafts Association. Like most Tiwi artists, he has his own unique Jilamara, and shares this on canvas and paper paintings, and carved ironwood Tutini poles and spears (1).
